Ingredients

For the patties:

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey breast
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp avocado or olive oil, for frying

For the burgers:

  • 1/4 cup ranch dressing (dairy-free if needed)
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce
  • 4 hamburger buns (gluten-free if needed)
  • Burger toppings of your choice: Avocado, bacon, lettuce, red onion, etc.

Instructions

For the burgers:

  • In a large bowl, mix the turkey breast, minced onion, garlic powder, salt, and chili powder. Don’t overmix or the meat can become tough.
  • Divide the turkey mixture into 4 portions. Roll a portion into a ball and form into a patty shape.
  • Preheat a large saucepan with the oil over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, place the patties in the pan. Use a greased spatula or burger smasher to press the patties into the pan. Don’t overdo the smash or you will have broken turkey burgers. Let the burgers cook for 2-3 minutes each side, until the turkey has a nice sear and reaches 165 degrees internally.

For assembling:

  • Mix the ranch and BBQ sauce in a small bowl.
  • Toast the buns. Assemble the turkey burgers on the toasted buns with the BBQ ranch sauce and any other toppings of choice.

Notes

  • If you have leftover turkey burgers that you have already cooked, we recommend storing them in an airtight container and using within 3-4 days. Store the burgers, toppings, and buns separately. You can reheat the burgers in the microwave or in a pan on the stove.
  • This recipe can be made gluten and dairy free. Ensure that the ranch dressing, BBQ sauce, and buns you choose are dairy and gluten-free. Using a “lettuce wrap” is also an option for the burger. Make sure to verify that each ingredient you use meets your dietary guidelines.
