This dairy-free hot chocolate is the perfect treat for winter time. It has all the richness and creaminess of the classic hot chocolate without the dairy. Skip the store bought hot chocolate mixes and enjoy a homemade mug of hot chocolate!
2cupsdairy-free milk of choice (coconut, almond, or cashew)
2tablespooncocoa powder (feel free to adjust to your preference)
1-2tablespoonpure maple syrup
Small pinch of sea salt
1tablespoondairy-free chocolate chips, optional
Peppermint extract, optional
Instructions
Add the milk to a small pot over medium low heat. Whisk in the cocoa powder, pure maple syrup, sea salt, and dairy-free chocolate chips and a drop of peppermint extract if desired. Continually whisk until the cocoa is completely dissolved.
Remove the pan from the stove when the milk is warm and steaming. Do not let the milk boil. Serve in a mug with dairy-free whipped cream or mini marshmallows and crushed candy cane if desired.

This recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian. Ensure that all of your ingredients are certified gluten-free if needed. For a vegan hot cocoa, be sure to use vegan marshmallows.
