Ingredient Notes
- Mini naan breads - we like to use the Stonefire Mini Naan Breads that you can find at your local grocery store. You can also use a flatbread or pita of your choice. Use a gluten-free option if you need. You can also use homemade flatbread, homemade pizza dough, or a store-bought crust.
- Your favorite BBQ sauce - save some extra bbq sauce for the drizzle after the flatbread is baked. Homemade bbq sauce would also be delicious here. Primal kitchen has a barbecue sauce that is lower in sugar.
- Minced garlic - swap for garlic powder if needed.
- Shredded or chopped chicken breast - grab a rotisserie chicken for ease if you don't have leftover chicken on hand. Shredded crockpot chicken, grilled chicken, or oven-baked chicken would all work great. BBQ chicken thighs are also yummy. For a crockpot version, you could try our crockpot bbq chicken (drain off the juice before using this chicken).
- Mozzarella cheese - you can use a dairy-free option or remove all together if needed. We like to use fresh mozzarella. Monterey jack will also work.
- Red onion - feel free to slice or dice it.
- Cilantro
- Hot honey - you can find hot honey at most Grocery stores. Mike's Hot Honey is delicious or Trader Joe's has their own version that is less expensive. You can also use normal honey or make your own.

Equipment You’ll Need
- Cutting board and knife
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Baking sheet
- Medium skillet (optional)
Step by Step Directions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Lay each naan bread on the baking sheet. Use a spoon to spread a thin layer of BBQ sauce (about 2 tbsp) on the naan bread. Sprinkle a small amount of minced garlic or garlic powder on top.
Step 2: Next, add ½ cup of chicken and spread out evenly. Sprinkle ¼ cup of mozzarella cheese. Feel free to add additional cheese if desired or skip it all together. Add diced red onion on top. Repeat this process until all 4 naan breads are assembled.
Step 3: Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown and the bottom of the crust is crispy.
Optional: If the bottom of your flatbreads are not crispy, place a medium frying pan on the stove over medium heat. Add a light spray of olive or avocado oil to the pan. Once the pan is hot, place the naan bread in the pan, toppings facing up. Let the bottom of the crust cook until golden brown and crispy, about 1 minute. Repeat this process for each flatbread.
Step 4: Sprinkle each flatbread with fresh cilantro and drizzle hot honey over top. Drizzle a little extra BBQ sauce if desired.
Tips & Variations
- Feel free to drizzle a little olive oil on the flatbreads if you prefer.
- If you're looking for extra spice, add red pepper flakes.
- Feel free to add other pizza toppings—chopped bell pepper, chopped green onions, or cherry tomatoes are also a yummy addition.
- A little drizzle of ranch dressing on top is yummy too.
FAQ
Store leftovers in a sealed container. We prefer to reheat the flatbreads in the air fryer, microwave, or oven to restore the crispness. Store the leftovers without the hot honey and add that when you reheat.
