BBQ chicken pizza is one of my favorite meals of all time. Thank you to whoever decided BBQ chicken belongs on a pizza! While I do love to order a BBQ chicken pizza out, these BBQ chicken flatbreads have become my new favorite at-home recipe. These flatbreads are simple and come together in 20 minutes, making them perfect for a busy weeknight. This recipe is a great way to use up leftover grilled chicken or shredded rotisserie chicken. Throw on some red onion, cilantro, BBQ sauce, and hot honey and you’re set!
What ingredients do you need to make BBQ Chicken Flatbreads?
Naan Bread
For this recipe, we prefer to use the mini naan bread you can purchase at the store. We like the Stonefire brand you can find at your local Costco and Target. However, feel free to use any flatbread you like. You can also use a wrap or tortilla, but the results will differ slightly.
Chopped or Shredded Chicken
This recipe is a great way to use up the leftover chicken sitting in your fridge. You can also pick up a rotisserie chicken at the store and shred it. We like to prepare shredded chicken in the instant pot or slow cooker at the beginning of the week and then use it later in the week for this recipe. We advise against using chicken that has been sitting in liquid or a broth as it will make the flatbread soggy.
BBQ Sauce
BBQ sauce is the real star of this recipe! It creates the addicting flavor that we all know and love. Feel free to use your favorite BBQ sauce for this recipe. We typically look for a BBQ sauce with simple ingredients. Here in Kansas City, we have a ton of local options which is great! However, a few brands we like are Stubbs and Primal Kitchen.
Red Onion, Cilantro, and Minced Garlic
Red onion, cilantro, and minced garlic provide great texture and flavor for the flatbread. Slice or dice the red onion into small pieces so it doesn’t overpower the other flavors. For the cilantro, add it to the flatbread after you bake them.
Hot Honey
Hot honey makes this BBQ chicken flatbread special. If you haven’t tried hot honey on your pizza before, give it a chance! Hot honey is very popular right now, and for good reason. The sweet drizzle complements the tang of the BBQ sauce and completes the recipe. You can most likely find a version of hot honey at your local store. Start with a small amount if you’re sensitive to spice. We use Mike’s Hot Honey that you can find at your local Target.

What equipment do you need?
You don’t need much to make this easy BBQ Chicken Flatbread! You will need the following equipment:
- A baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Knife and cutting board
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Medium frying pan
How do I make BBQ Chicken Flatbreads?
- Begin by preheating your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Lay each naan bread on the baking sheet and begin to assemble the BBQ chicken flatbreads.
- Use a spoon to spread a thin layer of BBQ sauce (about 2 tbsp) on the naan bread. Sprinkle a small amount of minced garlic or garlic powder on top. Add ½ cup of chicken next and spread evenly. Next, sprinkle ¼ cup of mozzarella cheese. Feel free to add additional cheese if desired or skip it all together. Add sliced red onion on top and drizzle with additional bbq sauce, if desired. Repeat this process until all 4 naan breads are assembled.
- Add the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- This next step is important to ensure you have a crispy crust! The last thing you want is a soggy pizza. Place a medium frying pan on the stove over medium heat. Add a light spray of olive or avocado oil to the pan. Once the pan is hot, place the naan bread in the pan, toppings facing up. Let the bottom of the crust cook until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Repeat this process for each flatbread. While this may seem like an unnecessary additional step, it is simple and creates a crispy crust.
- Sprinkle each flatbread with fresh cilantro and drizzle hot honey over top.

Anything else to consider?
If you are reheating leftovers, we would suggest reheating the flatbreads in a frying pan to recreate the crispy crust. This recipe is great to pair with a nice salad, like our berry salad.
Are these BBQ Chicken Flatbreads GF/DF?
In order to make this recipe gluten-free, be sure to use a gluten-free flatbread and BBQ sauce. In order to make this recipe dairy-free, use dairy-free cheese or omit the cheese all together.
