- Brown jasmine rice - Brown jasmine rice is our favorite variety of brown rice. It is firm when cooked, has a slightly nutty flavor, and is easily distributed throughout salads and bowls. You can find brown jasmine rice at most grocery stores. Trader Joe's has a great price.
- Water & a pinch of salt - This recipe is so simple and works great every time. We have found this to be the perfect ratio of water to rice.

Step 1: Add the brown jasmine rice, water, and salt to the instant pot and stir.
Step 2: Place and lock the lid on the instant pot. Place the pressure valve to the sealing position. Set the Instant pot to manual High Pressure for 20 minutes. When the instant pot beeps, letting you know the cycle is complete, let it sit for 10 minutes before releasing the remaining pressure with the pressure valve. Remove the instant pot lid, fluff with a fork, and serve. This recipe yields about 3 ⅓ cups of brown rice.
Tips & Variations
- You can add additional spices to the instant pot, or substitute the water with coconut milk, vegetable broth, or chicken stock. You could also add a teaspoon of olive oil. Cilantro & lime is a delicious addition after the rice is done cooking.
- White jasmine rice has a different cook time and is not a good substitute in this recipe. You may experience varying results with different types of rice, however brown basmati rice should cook similarly to cooking jasmine brown rice.
