Step by Step Directions

Step 1: For the turkey burger patties:
In a large bowl, mix the ground turkey, minced red onion, cilantro, and jalapeΓ±o, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and lime juice until well combined. Donβt over mix or the meat can become tough. We don't want tough or dry turkey burgers!
Divide the turkey mixture into 4 equal portions. Roll a portion into a ball and form into a patty shape. You can place the patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper until you are ready to cook them.
For the grill:
Spray the grill with non-stick cooking spray. Prepare the grill to cook on medium-high heat, about 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Once hot, place the patties on the grill and cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
For the stove:
Preheat a large saucepan with olive oil cooking spray over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, place the patties in the pan. Let the burgers cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the turkey has a nice sear and reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
Step 2: For the guacamole
In a medium bowl, mash the avocados then add the red onion, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Mix until well combined.
Step 3: For assembling
We recommend toasting the burger buns prior to assembly to prevent the bun from becoming too soggy. You can do this in a toaster, on a pan over the stove, or in the oven depending on your preference.
Place a cooked turkey burger on the bottom half of the bun. Top the patty with guacamole, pico de gallo, and a piece of crisp romaine lettuce. Place the top half of the bun on top of the burger and enjoy!
Tips & Variations
- You can add another type of onion or chopped green onions instead of red onion if desired. It will still result in a good burger!
- If you aren't a fan of jalapeno peppers, you could add some minced bell pepper instead.
- Feel free to add additional toppings and sauces such as extra cheese, bacon, chipotle mayo, or BBQ sauce.
FAQ
We recommend storing components separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator (store the cooked turkey burgers and the toppings separately).
You can also freeze the burger patties prior to cooking them. Simply wrap each individual patty in plastic wrap or between pieces of parchment paper and then place them in a Ziploc bag or airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, pull the frozen patties out of the freezer and place them in the refrigerator overnight. Alternatively, you can thaw in cold water. Make sure the patties are in a leak-proof bag and place in a bowl of cold water, changing the water out every 30 minutes until the patties have thawed.
This burger can be gluten-free if served on a gluten-free bun. It is also dairy-free without the addition of cheese.
