Why You'll Love This Recipe
One of Tropical Smoothie Cafe's most popular drinks is their Bahama Mama Smoothie. It's a fruit smoothie with strawberry, pineapple, white chocolate, and coconut. You don't have to spend $7 per smoothie to try this combo of flavors, you can make your own Bahama mama smoothie recipe at home! Our copycat smoothie is made with simple ingredients that you can find at your local grocery store, with less added sugar, the addition of protein powder, and is inspired by the same tropical flavors. This smoothie is the perfect drink for a hot summer day!
Ingredient Notes
- Frozen Pineapple and Frozen Strawberries - Frozen pineapple and frozen strawberries form the base of this smoothie. Make sure you use frozen fruit! Fresh strawberries and pineapple are delicious but won't give you the same texture. It helps to create the perfect smoothie consistency. Strawberries and pineapple are a great way to get an extra vitamin C boost.
- Unsweetened Coconut Milk - To create the essential coconut flavor, we use creamy coconut milk. You can find it near the almond milk in the refrigerated section. You could also use lite canned coconut milk for a creamier smoothie. If you have coconut water on hand, you could use that instead. It won't have the same creamy consistency but it will still be a refreshing smoothie.
- Protein Powder - We recommend adding in a scoop of your favorite protein powder. We recommend a vanilla or coconut flavor. Make sure that you choose a protein powder with a flavor you love, because the flavor of the protein will come through in this smoothie. Our personal favorite protein powder is Truvani, which is a plant-based, organic option. It blends really well into smoothies and also tastes delicious!
- White Chocolate Chips & Coconut Flakes (Optional) - To add the white chocolate flavor, feel free to sprinkle a few white chocolate chips on top of your smoothie or throw some into the blender. This will help to create those hints of white chocolate. We like Lily's or Enjoy Life for a vegan white chocolate option. Tropical Smoothie’s secret ingredient is a white chocolate syrup, which we didn't feel was necessary for a great end result. Extra coconut flakes can also be blended into the smoothie or sprinkled on top.
