Ingredient Notes
For the meatballs
- Lean ground chicken - feel free to swap for lean ground beef or ground turkey as well.
- Red onion, minced
- Panko breadcrumbs or almond flour - skip the bread crumbs for almond flour if you're gluten-free.
- Egg
- Minced garlic - garlic powder will work if you don't have fresh on hand.
- Fresh dill or dried dill - we love fresh herbs but either will work.
- Dried oregano
- Salt
- Pepper
- Lemon juice
We like to serve the meatballs in bowls! Ideas for what you can add to the bowls:
- Rice, quinoa, or orzo - brown rice, white rice, orzo, and quinoa are all great!
- Lettuce or greens mix
- Fresh vegetables like cherry tomatoes, english cucumber, red onion
- Hummus, tzatziki sauce, or Greek dressing - we highly recommend trying a homemade Greek yogurt tzatziki sauce
- Pita chips
- Creamy feta cheese and kalamata olives

Step by Step Directions

Step 1: In a large bowl, add the ground chicken, red onion, breadcrumbs or almond flour, egg, minced garlic, dill, oregano, salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Mix until well combined.
Step 2: Use a cookie scoop or spoon to form into small balls and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Step 3: Cook the meatballs using one of the following options:
If using an air fryer: set the temperature to 390 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the meatballs in a single layer in the air fryer basket (you may need to cook in two batches depending on the size of the air fryer). Cook for 8-10 minutes, turning the meatballs halfway, or until each meatball reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
If baking: bake the meatballs on the baking sheet at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 12-15 minutes, or until each meatball reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit
If cooking on a skillet: place a large skillet on the stove over medium heat. Once it’s hot, add a little bit of oil to the pan. Next, add the meatballs in a single layer, preventing them from touching. You may need to cook them in two batches depending on the size of your skillet. Let the meatballs cook for 4-5 minutes each side, or until they reach 165 degrees and are cooked through completely.
Step 4: We like to serve the meatballs in bowls with any toppings or additions of your choice! Make them your own. Our ideas/suggestions for adding to the bowls are listed above in the ingredients.

FAQ
Store these meatballs in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze them for up to a month.
To freeze the meatballs, fully cook them and let them cool completely. Place the meatballs in a single layer on a baking sheet and put them in the freezer for about 30 minutes, or until solid. Place them in an airtight container or freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. When you are ready to use them, place them in the refrigerator to thaw overnight. Alternatively, you can thaw them in a bowl of cold water the day of. Make sure they are in a sealed bag and place them into a bowl of cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes until thawed. To reheat, bake in the oven at 300 degrees F until warmed through (internal temperature should read 165 degrees F).
This recipe is dairy-free. For a gluten-free version, use the almond flour.
