Ingredient Notes
- Steak - we recommend using a flank steak for this recipe, but you could also use a skirt steak cut into thin strips. Cut the steak against the grain for the most tender results (see directions for more details).
- Broccoli - we recommend using fresh broccoli florets over frozen.
- Rice - we like to serve this broccoli stir-fry recipe over jasmine white rice but you can also use brown rice or even cauliflower rice depending on your preferences.
- Soy sauce - we prefer low sodium soy sauce over regular soy sauce. For a gluten-free alternative, use coconut aminos or tamari.
- Cornstarch - you can use arrowroot powder as an alternative.
- Fresh ginger and garlic - we love to use fresh but pre-minced or frozen are great options as well.

For the full recipe instructions, scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page.
Step 1: Place all of the sauce ingredients into a bowl and whisk until well-combined. Set aside.
Step 2: Place a large skillet on the stove over medium heat. Add 2 teaspoons of olive or avocado oil. Once the oil is hot, add the broccoli and water. Cover the pan and let the broccoli cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is tender. Once the broccoli is cooked, set it aside in a bowl.
Step 3: Slice the flank steak into thin, bite-sized slices, cutting โagainst the grainโ (see recipe notes for more info).
Place the skillet back on the stove. Add the other 2 teaspoons of olive or avocado oil. Once the oil is really hot, add the steak pieces, trying to keep them in a single layer in the pan. Cook the steak for 2-3 minutes, until you have a nice sear on the steak but it doesnโt need to be fully cooked through.
Step 4: Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet and stir until combined.
Step 5: Pour the sauce over the steak and let the mixture cook for 1-2 more minutes, until the sauce has thickened and the steak is no longer pink.
Step 6: Add the cooked broccoli and mix together. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired. Serve over rice.
