Ingredient Notes
- Chickpeas - also known as garbanzo beans, you will need one 15 ounce can of chickpeas for this recipe. You need canned chickpeas/cooked chickpeas, not dried chickpeas. There is no need to worry about removing the chickpea skins from individual chickpeas.
- Fresh lemon juice
- Tahini - tahini is made from ground sesame seeds to form a sesame paste and is a key ingredient to ensure smoother hummus! It helps give hummus its creamy texture and nutty flavor. You can find it at most grocery stores.
- Extra-virgin olive oil
- Minced garlic - feel free to add less garlic if you don't want as strong of a garlic flavor.
- Kosher salt + more to taste
- Cumin
- Water - you will likely need 2-3 tablespoons of water to create a smooth texture.

Yes, you can also freeze hummus for up to four months when stored in an airtight container in the freezer. It can be helpful to drizzle a thin layer of olive oil over the top of the hummus when freezing to prevent the hummus from drying out. For best results, when thawed, give the hummus a good stir and feel free to add more lemon juice, salt, or garlic as needed.
