These oven baked fries have become a favorite side dish around here and they pair well with many main dishes. A few of my favorite mains we pair them with are BBQ bacon turkey burgers, any grilled meats, salads, and air-fryer chicken nuggets. These fries are versatile and provide a great companion to many main dishes. So, skip the intimidating deep fry and make these oven-baked fries with just a few simple ingredients!
What ingredients do you need?
- Russet Potatoes
- Olive or Avocado Oil
- Seasonings
Yep, it's that simple!
What equipment do you need?
To make oven-baked fries, you will need the following equipment:
- A cutting board and sharp knife to cut the potatoes
- A large baking sheet or roasting pan to cook the fries on
- Parchment paper or aluminum foil to line the baking sheet (optional)
- A large bowl to toss the fries with oil and seasonings
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Tongs or a spatula to toss and turn the fries on the baking sheet.
How is it done?
Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees. Next, wash and dry the russet potatoes. Using a cutting board and a sharp knife, cut the potato into fries. If you are unsure how to cut potatoes into fries, this video can walk you through it.
Add the fries to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the olive or avocado oil over the potatoes and toss until evenly coated. Next, sprinkle on all of the spices and toss again to coat the fries evenly.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place each fry flesh side down in a row onto the sheet, preventing them from touching. Add the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 40-50 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fries. Turn them when they have been in the oven for 30 minutes. The fries are done when they are crispy and golden brown on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside. If you are unsure if they are done, take out one fry at a time and break it in half to determine.
Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce!
Anything else to consider?
These fries are best reheated in the oven or air fryer to freshen them up and bring back the crispiness. A few of our favorite dipping sauces are the OG fry sauce (if you’ve never had fry sauce, look it up!), buffalo sauce, and ketchup. You can also liven these fries up by topping them with bacon, shredded cheese, and green onion.
